Paper P7 is one of the final options papers, and, as such, will be a demanding and challenging exam, aiming to test whether candidates have the necessary knowledge, application, skills, and judgement to complete their professional qualification. Using good exam technique and having a sensible approach to questions will do much to help secure a clear pass mark. This is the first of a two-part series on approaching Section A questions. The next article — which will be published in the September issue of student accountant — will include elements of a typical question and illustrate how these should be approached.

ICAEW spread some early Christmas cheer with top marks in the latest series of advanced level ACA exams, which was the biggest ever session at this level with the highest number of students and exams taken, including over 3, people taking the case study exam. For the second year running, the strategic business management exam came out on top of the three modules taken with a pass rate of Mihir Patel from PwC took first place and the Whinney prize in the case study results, and also came first and was awarded the Quilter prize in the corporate reporting module. To complete a hat trick, Patel was also awarded first place and the Peat prize in the advanced level annual international order of merit rankings.
